Another tale….

The way our Pakistani cricketers are getting featured in the news for different sorts of stupidity, and with the frequency I am blogging about them, is making this look like a cricketing blog. Well it ISNT!!. But just when I though I was done blogging about cricketers till the World Cup starts after the events of Malik-Mirza, another “Cricketer Crisis” is about to happen.

So before I hit the sack, just want to write a couple of lines about this new crisis. This time its an all Pakistani affair featuring one of Pakistan Team best bowling hope in the lanky form of Muhummad Asif, yes the same guy who was implicated in the drugs issue of the last few years, and now he is back again, and this time he may find himself in jail on the account of fraud. The other person in this new crisis is Pakistan’s own version of the know it all, but in reality a total bimbo, the typical Hollywood man-eater, the ‘star’ of the horrendous Pakistan film industry, Veena Malik. I really don’t want to go into details, but is seems that Ms.Malik (no not the to-be-soon Ms Malik) really is gunning for Asif now and has been quoted that she is ready to drag him to court if need be.

I just can’t believe this. Why the hell are our cricketers in the news for the wrong reason and it looks like this trend has gone in over drive. Be it in fighting amongst teams members, performance enhancing drugs, alleged murder of the team coach, ball-tampering, marriage fraud….*sigh* this list is becoming depressing. Anyways I really cant wait for Pakistan’s World Cup campaign to start so to take my mind of the stupidity of our beloved cricketers. But heres the joke of the decade, OUR TEAMS SUCKS!!

Stupid move!

So while pondering about which topic to write about, I absent-mindedly switched on the telly and lo and behold, I had found a topic. So for God knows what reason PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority)had ordered all the cable operator to stop the telecast of ARY QTV. Now most of you know about QTV, but for the uninitiated QTV is the first Islamic channel which runs for 24 hours, which started almost 8 years ago. It has proceeded to become the first channel of its kind, and now is shown around the world.

The basic feature of the channel was to impart the teachings of Islam and the Hadith to people across the world from the confines of their homes. A bevy of different programs are geared towards different aspects of the religion spanning from tackling difficult issues with the help of many Ulemas, the recitation of the Quran with proper Tajweed and pronunciation,  the explanation of the Quran, a woman centric programme hosted by women Ulemas dealing with problems, hosting special transmissions on the big Islamic days. As you can see the QTV had a definite purpose and goal and that is precisely why it has garnered a massive fan following in almost every strata of our society. Thus the decision of PEMRA to stop its transmission is as mind-boggling as it is stupid.

Fine.. I don’t spend my days glued to the TV with QTV tuned in, but I do watch a few of the programs (esp the ones dealing with Fiqh problems), though not a daily basis . There is a certain need to understand its importance in today’s glizty filled TV programming and what QTV stands for. How can anyone rationalize not having a channel like QTV is beyond me but I am sure the PR team of PEMRA will spin this with the “coolness” of “Secularism. HA!. People at PEMRA need to get it in their heads (as do others who think that Pakistan is a secular state) that Pakistan is not a secular state, rather is a multi-facet country where religion has the final say in everything.

But what is really grating my nerves is how blatantly vicious this decision is, and I am sure all of can see where I am going with this. Yes, Indian TV programming. Ranging from the many in-house cable channels with the sole purpose of showing Indian movies, or many

I HATE THEE!!!

Pakistani channels (YES..Pakistani channels) showing Indian stuff (movies and interviews and news)or the channel which has become a scourge in Pakistan, Star Plus. RUN TO THE HILLS!!!!. So its cool to stop an Islamic channel, yet we need to be inundated with everything Indian. I mean SERIOUSLY!?!?!

What really takes the cake is that many of the stuff which is shown of Pakistani channels. It bordering appalling. Calling it the “Arts” (with a lisp everyone!) and then going to town with truly shameful things. You can see it in TV dramas, morning shows, talk shows, fashion show coverage…I can go but what the use.

So anyways before winding down this long post, I just want to say that for a myriad of reasons our beloved county is spiraling down the path of destruction. Since a couple of months I have felt as if i am starting to lose faith with this country..does it make me sad? HELL YES. But the sad fact is that i am not the only one whose has felt this. HA! if a day goes by with no big news ‘gracing” our channels I gets shocked.

But for what its worth ARY QTV needs to get back on the air waves as soon as possible. Now if they can do something about those ‘Jhankar Beats Naats and Hamds’…….
